Research Project: Autonomous Weapon Systems

Autonomous Weapon Systems between Regulation and Reflection

Autonomous weapon systems are among the most controversial and potentially consequential developments that are advancing rapidly in the context of artificial intelligence. A major challenge is to ensure effective human control over these unprecedented weapon systems.

The project "Human/Machine Interfaces in the Debate on Autonomous Weapon Systems" at the University of Bonn identifies criteria for such "meaningful control" and explores the possibilities for their technical implementation. It is part of the BMBF-funded research network "Meaningful Human Control. Autonomous Weapon Systems between Regulation and Reflection".
